The next installment of the Terry Pratchett play series at Roleystone Theatre Men at Arms is taking the stage this month.
At approximately the same time last year, Roleystone Theatre actors cast as the Ankh-Morpork City Night Watch took on Pratchett’s Guards! Guards! to take down a 60-foot-tall dragon.
In this show, the Night Watch including Captain Vimes, Sergeant Colon, Corporal Carrot and Corporal Nobbs are joined by new recruits which reflects the diverse nature of the city.
New watch members including a dwarf by the name of Lance-Constable Cuddy, a troll named Detritus and Angua, an unknown creature, support the work of the watch as Captain Vimes prepares for both a wedding and his retirement, blissfully unaware a plot to restore the monarchy is brewing.
Roleystone resident and local high school teacher Brad Towton directed the show to honour the satirical wit and sense of humour of Pratchett as the author of the original novel, while bringing his own fresh notes to the play.
Men at Arms follows the theatre’s previous Guards! Guards! show – which was nominated in the WA community theatre awards, the Finley Awards – to fit into the DiscWorld timeline, complete with a creative stage set, makeup, costumes, and a larger-than-life troll.
The show can be watched on Friday July 18 at 7:30pm, Saturday July 19 at 2pm and 7:30pm, Sunday July 20 at 5pm, Thursday July 24 at 7:30pm, Friday July 25 at 7:30pm, and Saturday July 26 at 2pm and 7:30pm.
