Some exceptional wood chopping talent was on display.

The Serpentine Jarrahdale Lions Country Fair was held last Sunday, supported by a $25,000 Major Events Grant from the Shire.

The event, which showcased elite axemen competing in a range of thrilling timber sport disciplines, drew competitors from across Australia and overseas, being one of the region’s most anticipated annual events.

The Log Chop forms part of the wider Serpentine Jarrahdale Lions Country Fair, which attracted thousands of visitors this year and featured more than 100 stalls, agricultural displays, local produce sales, demonstrations, children’s rides, a licensed bar and live musical entertainment.

Deputy Shire President Reece Jerrett said the funding recognised the significant economic and community benefits the event delivers to the region.

“It was fantastic to see the community come together once again for the Serpentine Jarrahdale Lions Country Fair and Jarrahdale Log Chop,” he said.

“The event continues to be one of the highlights of our local calendar, attracting visitors from across Western Australia and showcasing the unique character, history and community spirit of Jarrahdale.

“I’d like to congratulate the Serpentine Jarrahdale Lions Club and its dedicated volunteers for delivering another successful event and for the enormous contribution they make to our community.”

Serpentine Jarrahdale Lions Club Secretary Sandra Hawkins welcomed the Shire’s support and said the grant would help ensure the continued growth of the event.

“It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout and the community enjoying everything the Country Fair and Log Chop had to offer,” she said.

“The event would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, sponsors, stallholders, competitors and the wider community, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who contributed.

“From the world-class log chop competition to the family-friendly entertainment, community stalls and local displays, the event once again showcased the very best of what our region has to offer.

“We’re proud of what the event has become and look forward to welcoming everyone back again next year.”

The event continues to play an important role in showcasing the Shire as a vibrant destination for tourism, recreation and community events.
