A seventeen-year-old local girl will make Western Australia proud by playing in the 2020 School Sport WA 17 years and under girls softball team.

Avaria Nepia is currently training six days a week with the aim of competing in Perth in May.

The Southern River College year 12 student started playing softball in 2013 after watching her mother play over the years.

Since then it felt natural for Avaria and from then she kept doing what she is
now best at.

“I always imagined myself representing my state from the very beginning, I just had to plan how I got there,” she said.

“My expectations of this tournament are very high as I want to be that girl on the diamond with her team and doing the best we can.

“We have an awesome group of girls and I believe we can work extremely well together.

“I think our biggest competitor is really ourselves.

“It’s whether we can believe in ourselves or not, that determines the outcome.”
