Police shooting charged to apply for bail

) The January 11 pursuit began shortly after WA police issued a state-wide appeal to find Desmond Lee Kirk.

The man charged with shooting at police while leading them on a wild high-speed chase from Kelmscott to North Dandalup will apply to be released from jail while his matters move through the court system.

Desmond Lee Kirk appeared by video link from Hakea Prison at the Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday where his lawyer informed the magistrate of Mr Kirk’s intent to apply for bail.

The 36-year-old Welshpool man – who is believed to have bikie connections – was arrested in January when the 50km-long police pursuit ended in a dramatic crash.

He was charged by the Gang Crime Squad with seventeen offences.

An eighteenth offence – related to PolAir footage of Mr Kirk allegedly pointing a loaded firearm at the police helicopter – was added to his long list of charges on Tuesday.

He is yet to enter pleas for any of the charges listed against him.

He will appear in court again next Thursday to apply for bail.
