This mature rose gum is due to be cut down.

Gosnells Council has voted to chop down a 30-year-old Rose Gum in Matison Street Southern River despite residents petitioning to save it.

A condition of subdivision approval for the Southern River Business Park development requires the upgrading of Matison Street to enable it to take additional traffic.

This upgrade will involve widening the street which will occur along the length of the Business Park’s interface with Matison Street. This widening will affect a gas main in the verge adjacent to Matison Street.

The council estimated it would cost up to $3million to relocate the tree.
