Winter officially arrives today with the arrival of a strong cold front on the coast of WA from tonight.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned the front will bring with it heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts up to 100km/h.
The front is expected to hit the coast at 5pm this afternoon and reach Perth by 8pm tonight.
BOM’s warning said this is the first of the storms which usually hit WA around five times a year, and marks a change from the relatively dry Autumn.
The Bureau has urged drivers to take extra care on roads, with information on road closures available through mainroads.com.au or your local Shire or City Council.
If your home has been damaged by a storm, contact SES on 132 500 and in an emergency call 000.
Updates can be found at emergency.wa.gov.au or by calling 13 DFES (12 3337).
