Byford’s Wayne Ryder has claimed national recognition, winning the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year in the National Training Awards 2022.
Having won the WA title, Wayne flew to Canberra for a packed five-trip to Canberra, culminating in the awards night on November 18.
In accepting his award, Wayne thanked his many supporters.
“How good is this, hey?” he said.
“We’re all amazing, we’re all ambassadors for our mob.”
Giving heartfelt nods to his mentor Tania, fiancée Roz, older sister and four kids, Wayne said that winning the award was for his community.
“For anyone who has given up – anyone can make a change, just take that chance. Go WA.”
The awards, now in their 28th year, recognise the training sector’s brightest stars, including apprentices, trainees, students and training organisations.
