Three Gosnells Hawks junior baseball players have been selected to represent the West Coast Rays at the 2026 Barclay Cup in Melbourne.
Isla Stockden, Stella Aland and Sienna McNamara will compete at the national youth girls baseball tournament, which begins on September 27.
All three players are 13 years old, with Isla from Bedford, Stella from Cloverdale and Sienna from Canning Vale.
The Barclay Cup brings together female baseballers aged 13 to 16 from across Australia and honours the legacy of Jacinda Barclay.
Gosnells Hawks Baseball Club junior section treasurer and Little League vice-president Caroline Adamson said having three players selected was a positive result for the club’s junior program.
“Having three Gosnells Hawks players selected for the West Coast Rays is a strong endorsement of the club’s junior development program,” she said.
“It suggests that the Hawks are consistently producing players who can compete at an elite representative level, which is exactly what junior pathways are designed to achieve.”
Ms Adamson said the girls’ selection was likely the result of their dedication, continual improvement and performances throughout the season.
She said their development in key baseball skills, along with their attitude and commitment to training, had helped them stand out.
At the Barclay Cup, the trio will have the chance to test themselves at representative level, continue developing their skills and meet other young players.
Ms Adamson said the selection could also encourage younger girls at the club.
“It shows them that achieving representative honours is possible through hard work, dedication and a love of the game,” she said.
“When players like Isla, Stella and Sienna earn selection, they become real-life role models for younger Hawks players, demonstrating the pathway from junior club baseball to higher levels of competition.”
The selection comes as female participation at Gosnells Hawks continues to grow.
“Over the last two years, female participation has increased significantly,” Ms Adamson said.
“The selection of Isla, Stella and Sienna for the West Coast Rays is a strong indication of the growing strength of female baseball at Gosnells Hawks.
“Their achievements highlight the opportunities available to girls within the club and provide inspiration for the next generation of female players coming through the junior ranks.”
Ms Adamson said the club had also provided players with leadership, personal development and growth sessions delivered by external specialists, alongside regular training and competition.
She said coaches, volunteers and families had all played important roles in supporting young players at the club.
The West Coast Rays will be led by head coach Sair Turbutt when the Barclay Cup gets underway in Melbourne next month.
