Two local residents have been named as finalists in the Young Achiever awards.

Samuel Thomas, of Gosnells, is a finalist in the Catholic Education WA Young Leadership Award and Tyler Garner, of Thornlie, is a finalist in the Surge Fitness Sports Award.

The awards promote the achievements of young people throughout WA aged 30 years and under as of December 31

Winners announced at an Awards Gala Presentation Dinner to be held at Pan Pacific Perth, Friday June 7.

Samuel Thomas said his aim is to create opportunities for all.

He founded Sam’s Spares, a not-for-profit organisation that bridges computer e-waste and community needs while offering training to the neurodivergent.

Samuel has given away 3000 refurbished IT devices and is aiming for $1million worth this year.

Samuel, who is autistic and has Tourette’s syndrome, challenges disability stigma by proving capability through passion and purpose.

His NDIS-supported program empowers individuals on the autism spectrum, fostering technical skills and a sense of belonging.

Tyler Garner serves as a sporting inspiration.

Tyler has won awards in soccer and futsal since 2005 and 2014 and represented Australia as part of the Futsalroos.

He mentors young futsal players at Rockingham Cambio Cumbre’s new facility, aiming to pass on the skills and knowledge he has developed over the years.

Tyler’s inclusion in the Futsalroos not only puts WA on the map but also demonstrates that hard work and determination can lead to success

Category winners will each receive a prize package including a 1-on-1 mentoring package thanks to Jess Taylor Consulting, plus a trophy.

One of the 10 category winners will be chosen as the 2024 7NEWS Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year and will receive an overall winner trophy.

Tickets to the awards are $155 each which includes a three-course meal, beverages.
