The Demons are off to a good start to their season.

It was a strong weekend for the club, with five wins from eight senior matches.

3rd Grade v Phoenix – lost by 95 runs. The 3rds won the toss and bowled, but Phoenix ran up a commanding 7/210 from their 40 overs. Rhys Jones (2/23) and Stanley Walker (2/35) were the pick of the attack, and Sebastian Breskiewicz kept things tight through his eight overs. The chase never recovered from slipping to 3/14. Gareth Edmonds struck two big sixes on his way to a lively 32 and Sebastian Breskiewicz showed some fight with 16 not out, but the side was all out for 115 in the 29th over.

6th Grade v Thornlie – won by 2 wickets. This was the comeback of the round. Corey Mullane (3/25) and Todd King (2/8) helped restrict Thornlie to 9/191, and skipper Joel Elsley gave little away with 8-1-25.

Behind the stumps, Chris Shearer had a busy afternoon and held four catches. The chase looked in tatters at 4/34, until Luke Williams counterattacked with a brilliant 64 off 53 balls, including three sixes.

Shearer then backed up his keeping with a vital innings at the other end, dropping anchor for 82 balls in an invaluable 23 not out.

Samuel Mullane’s 15 took the side to the brink, and Shearer saw the team home with eight balls to spare. Williams also took 2/36 and had a hand in a run out, rounding out a match-winning all-round performance.

ODA v Maddington – won by 6 wickets. This was a clinical display from start to finish. Sherin Jose led the attack with 3/40. Basil Mathai, Rojin Koshy Roy, Shameem Chakkittammal and Ani Daniel all bowled tightly, holding Maddington to 9/155. Rojin also held two catches. The reply lost an early wicket, but Khalis Vadakke Parammal (58 off 43, three sixes) and Leemon Thomas (59 not out, ten boundaries) took the game away with an 89-run stand. Rajkiran Murugan joined Leemon to finish the job with almost 14 overs to spare.

ODC v Cannington Tigers – lost by 27 runs. Rishi Manikkoth produced the spell of the day, taking 4/29 to reduce Cannington to five down. However, an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership and 43 wides pushed the visitors to 5/192. Dinil Byju held two catches and then top-scored with 30, after a patient opening stint from Yesudas Kuriakose (21). Aneesh Babu, Abhilash Puthiya Parambath and Melvin Paul (17 not out) all chipped in, but the required rate kept climbing and the side finished on 9/165.

ODE v Cannington Tigers – won by 2 wickets. The bowlers laid the platform here. Sathish Kumar Manogaran was miserly with 2/10 from 6.1 overs, and Rajasekar Vijayakumar and Ramesh Ramar took two wickets apiece. Anand Baskaran, meanwhile, had a hand in everything. He took 2/19, held a catch and effected two run outs as Cannington were bowled out for 115.

The chase became nervy as wickets fell, but Vinay Reddy Chamala held his nerve with an unbeaten 27 to get the side over the line with eight wickets down.

ODF v CBC – won by 47 runs. After batting first, the ODFs posted 146, built around Ajith Rajagopal’s 32 off 33. Barathkumar Subramanian (18 not out) and Manjunath Bangalore Mukundaraj (16) also made useful contributions. CBC were never in the hunt as seven bowlers shared the wickets. Balakumaran Trichy Paramasivam (2/5), skipper Arun Veluchamy (2/15), Abdul Samad Awan (2/11) and Rishanth Manickam Sanjeevi (2/10) all struck. Barathkumar added two catches to a busy day, and CBC were dismissed for 99.

ODG v Cockburn – won by 35 runs. Paul Edwards was the standout, anchoring the innings with 69 before Stacey Barrett launched a late assault of 43 not out off 32 balls. Jake Edwards (22) and David Armstrong (20) helped set up a total of 3/176.

Cockburn threatened through a fluent half-century from their number six, but captain Peter Smith broke the game open with 3/24. Barrett (2/17) and Warren Francis (2/25) completed the job. Paul Edwards capped a superb match with three catches and a run out, and Andrew Stoodley held two catches.

ODH v Phoenix – lost by 94 runs.

It was a tough afternoon at Beeliar. Phoenix reached 7/182, despite three wickets from Mudil Passi and two from captain Aaron Priestly-Cousens. James Gardner was outstanding with the ball, conceding just 16 from his seven overs.

Ryan Eddington showed great application for his 29, but wickets fell regularly at the other end, and the side was dismissed for 88.
