Drivers will soon need to ease off the accelerator, with new traffic calming measures set to slow speeds and reduce crashes across suburban streets.
The City of Gosnells is working with Main Roads WA to install safety upgrades at local intersections known for speed-related crashes.
The upgrades are funded through the Main Roads Urban Safety Program. They will include raised platforms, mini-roundabouts and speed humps.
The works will focus on 10 sites within the area bounded by Corfield Street, King Street, Dorothy Street and Freemantle Road.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said the goal is to protect people by slowing traffic and reducing crash risks.
“Installing these safety treatments will help keep pedestrians, cyclists and other road users safe by encouraging drivers to slow down,” she said.
“Whether you’re walking, cycling, riding an e-scooter or driving, everyone has a right to feel safe on our streets.”
The project will be implemented in two stages. The first five upgrades will be finished by June 2025. The remaining sites will be done in the 2025/2026 financial year.
Mayor Lynes said the treatments are designed to be quick to install and cause little disruption.
She said, “The treatments can be installed on the existing road surface, which means there is minimal disruption during the installation – and a lasting positive impact for road users.”
