Amity Dudley is not only a champion in the eyes of her family and trainers but also on the national stage as she recently took home gold at this year’s Muay Thai Australian Championships.
The 10-year-old Byford youngster originally started practicing ballet and gymnastics but quickly drew a thirst for a more rough and tumble type of activity.
Her parents Rebecca and Ashley Dudley introduced her to Muay Thai and Amity has never looked back.
Amity travelled to the Gold Coast over the Australia Day long weekend to take part in the Muay Thai Australian Championships where she competed in her first ever fight on the national stage.
Her mother said the competitors didn’t hold back and it was certainly an eye-opener for Amity.
“Amity took it all in her stride,” she said.
“She had to fight three rounds and she felt that she lost the first round as her nerves got to her a bit but she said the second and third round she felt comfortable.”
Amity managed to take out the gold medal after beating last year’s national champion in the 10 to 11-year-old 36-kilogram division – earning her first ever medal for Muay Thai.
Mrs Dudley thanked everyone for their support, especially those that contributed to her fundraising campaign to get Amity and her trainer to the Gold Coast to compete in the championships.
“I can’t thank everyone enough for all the support that have shown Amity, either by donating or buying raffle tickets or just cheering her on during training,” she said.
“The biggest thanks we want to give are to Nat, Rhino, Donna and Rocco the owner and trainers at Pichitchai Muay Thai gym.
“Without their support and the extra time that they put in, Amity would have never got there.”
Amity now has her eyes firmly focused on her next hurdle where she hopes to be selected as part of the Australian team competing in Thailand in September this year.
