It was a major day for Shire staff.

Residents and businesses in Byford will now have easier and more immediate access to local government services following the opening of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s new Byford Administration Office.

Located in the heart of Byford Village, the new facility will provide a convenient location for residents to access Shire services, meet with staff and engage directly with local government closer to where they live, work and shop.

The opening reflects the changing needs of one of Western Australia’s fastest-growing communities, with Serpentine Jarrahdale now home to more than 40,000 residents and continuing to experience significant population growth.

Shire President Rob Coales said the new Byford Administration Office represented an important investment in community accessibility and service delivery.

“This is about bringing the Shire closer to our growing community,” President Coales said.

“Byford has become the commercial and population heart of our growing Shire, and thus establishing an office here ensures residents have easier access to local government services and support.”

“The facility will provide customer service functions, meeting spaces and office accommodation for over 20 Shire staff, allowing residents to access a range of services locally while creating greater opportunities for engagement between the community and local government,” a Shire spokesperson said.

President Coales believes the investment will deliver broader benefits for the Byford town centre.

“Having more Shire staff working in Byford and more residents visiting the precinct will contribute to increased activity within the town centre and support local businesses,” he said.

“Whether it’s grabbing a coffee, buying lunch, shopping locally or attending a meeting, these everyday interactions help create a vibrant and active town centre.”

The facility, which will complement the existing Mundijong Shire office, forms part of the Shire’s broader planning for growth.

“It enhances ongoing efforts to ensure infrastructure, services and community facilities continue to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding population,” said the Shire spokesperson.

President Coales claims the new presence demonstrates confidence in Byford’s future and the role it would continue to play within the Shire as home to more than 27,600 people, over half the Shire’s population.

“This investment reflects our confidence in Byford, confidence in our local businesses and confidence in the future of our community,” he said.

“As Serpentine Jarrahdale continues to grow, it is important that local government remains accessible, responsive and connected to the people it serves.”

The Administration Office is located in Byford Village at 20 Abernethy Road.
