Housing Minister Peter Tinley said Ian Carter would bring 35 years of experience to the Bentley 360 development.

A new, independent body aimed at getting the community on board in the development of the Bentley 360 project is the newest development in Bentley’s regeneration.

One of Australia’s most experienced community service and ‘social change leaders’ Ian Carter AM will lead the newly-formed Bentley Community Liaison Committee.

The committee will form the point of communication between the Department of Communities, the developer and the local community.

The committee will also allow the community to have their say on the project both before and during its development, while ensuring it aligns with expectations.

The committee will ultimately include 10 members chosen from business, local government, schools, youth, education, health, police, social services, and residents.

Mr Carter is currently working with the Department of Communities to identify these potential members.

Housing Minister Peter Tinley said Mr Carter’s experience would be a big boon to the development.

“Ian Carter, the inaugural Chair of the Bentley Community Liaison Committee, is a highly experienced chief executive and community services leader and has more than 35 years’ experience in management and leadership positions,” he said.

“He is a leader of social change and innovation and a leading commentator and advocate on social issues and I welcome the wealth of experience and knowledge he will bring to the community engagement aspect of the Bentley 360 project.”

Mr Tinley said Bentley 360 would serve as a litmus test for a more community-based approach to urban infill development.

“The establishment of the BCLC is part of a wider ‘place management’ approach we are piloting at Bentley 360 that is designed to deliver social and community infrastructure along with direct and targeted support services to residents,” he said.

“Through place management, Bentley 360 will drive greater social economic participation of all its residents, focusing on their long-term wellbeing through greater engagement.”
