The City of Gosnells will replace its cash prizes for early rates payments with vouchers or credit for City services.
At the February 10 Ordinary Council Meeting, councillors voted to encourage early payment of rates by offering prizes in the form of gift vouchers or credit, rather than cash.
Councillor Saiful Islam, who proposed the motion, said the City currently offers five $1,000 cash prizes to encourage ratepayers to pay their rates in full by the due date.
He proposed replacing the cash prizes with vouchers or credit that can be used at City facilities, such as Leisure World and the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre.
Cr Islam said the change would encourage greater use of City facilities and ensure the incentive is reinvested back into the City for the benefit of the community.
In a comment included in the agenda, the Director Business Services said it is open to Council to change or discontinue the incentives it offers for the payment of rates in full by the due date.

The motion was carried unanimously, 10 votes to nil.
According to the agenda, the City currently offers five $1,000 cash prizes
