Queens Park Soccer Club has expanded its training resources after receiving a $30,000 election commitment from Cannington MLA Ron Sao.
In a recent social media post, the club thanked Mr Sao for the funding, saying it had been used to purchase equipment that will benefit players of all ages. The new items include two portable goals, footballs, bibs, cones, training poles, a Veo camera system, jumping boxes, training mannequins, and winter jackets, rain jackets and tracksuits for the club’s senior teams.
The club said the new equipment would help provide a quality environment for players, coaches and volunteers while supporting the continued growth of football in the local community.
Speaking to Your Local Examiner, Mr Sao said he decided to support the club after meeting with a range of organisations in the Cannington electorate before the 2025 State Election.
“Queens Park Soccer Club is just one of the local organisations that I was pleased to support,” he said.
“They are in Queens Park, and so many local kids train at this club. I was glad that I could support them.”
He said community sporting clubs play an important role beyond the game itself.
“Organisations like local sporting clubs and other associations bring people together,” Mr Sao said.
“They provide opportunities to connect with people that they might not otherwise meet or interact with normally. From small interactions, lasting friendships can grow. This is important not only for people but for the community as well.”
Mr Sao said he hoped the funding would improve the experience for current players and encourage more people to get involved.
“I hope this support helps current players with better equipment and resources and also attracts new players,” he said.
“That would help the club grow and improve its on-field performance.”
He also said investment in local clubs could encourage more people to volunteer.
“Many organisations find it difficult to attract volunteers,” he said.
“With my support for the club, I hope potential volunteers will see a club that is professional and well-resourced. That might encourage people with different skills in the local community to volunteer some of their time.
“Again, strengthening our bonds as people with a shared goal – to see a grassroots organisation succeed.”
Mr Sao said he remained committed to supporting local organisations across the electorate.
“As the local State Member of Parliament, I am very keen to help individuals and organisations succeed and I’m happy to assist where I can,” he said.
