Gosnells Resident Thomas Betts has been named a finalist in this year’s Young Achiever Awards, recognised for his outstanding leadership and dedication to uplifting Aboriginal communities across Western Australia.
A proud Noongar man, Thomas is in the running for the Indigenous Community Leadership Award. He has helped more than 100 Aboriginal youth into employment and continues to mentor others through sport and community programs.
Known for his commitment to cultural safety and wellbeing, Thomas plays a key role in projects aimed at improving mental health services for Aboriginal people.
He also co-founded the Kongal Bilya Collective and Kaarli, two Aboriginal-owned businesses that celebrate Noongar culture through art and storytelling. His work reflects a deep connection to country, culture, and community, and is driven by his lived experience.
In 2022, Thomas was named runner-up for Mr NAIDOC Perth and continues to be a strong advocate for young people and cultural knowledge-sharing.
Winners across nine categories will be announced at the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Pan Pacific Perth. All finalists are also in the running for the People’s Choice Award, with voting now open on the Young Achiever Awards WA Facebook page.
Thomas’s nomination reveals the power of community-led change and the role of young leaders in building a more inclusive and culturally connected Western Australia.
