A woman who stopped to help a pedestrian after a minor collision in Como ended up being driven off in her own car in a bizarre and dangerous carjacking accident.

The 30-year-old woman was driving her red Kia Picanto north-east on Canning Highway near the Kwinana Freeway northbound on-ramp about 5pm on Saturday when a woman suddenly ran in front of her vehicle and was hit at low speed.

When the driver pulled over and offered to take the pedestrian to hospital, the woman climbed into the driver’s seat and refused to leave. The victim got into the passenger seat, but the woman sped off, driving recklessly through several suburbs including North Perth, Osborne Park and Leederville.

The car eventually stopped at the intersection of Vincent and Loftus streets in Leederville around 5:20pm, allowing the victim to escape. The woman then continued north on Loftus Street in the stolen vehicle.

Police later found the car next day on Waterloo Street in Joondanna.

Cannington Detectives charged a 38-year-old woman of no fixed address with several offences, including deprivation of liberty, endangering life, stealing a moto vehicle, and driving without authority. She appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 28.
