The sweetest fundraising event of the year will be back soon and the RSPCA is calling people to preheat their ovens, dust off their aprons and bake sweet treats in the name of fighting animal cruelty.

Everyone who registers will receive a special host kit, containing helpful tips, recipe ideas, an oven-shaped donation box and posters and bunting to decorate their event.

RSPCA WA head of fundraising Sally Vinar said the cupcake day aims at making a difference and help raise funds to fight animal cruelty.

“Whether you go sweet or savoury or bake it or fake it, it doesn’t matter as your efforts will mean everything to the thousands of abused, neglected and abandoned animals who rely on RSPCA for help every year,” she said.

According to Ms Vinar, every $100 raised through the bake sale will cover one week of antibiotics for an animal recovering from emergency surgery.

The City of Gosnells will be taking part in the fundraiser by holding a staff event on the day and mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the fundraiser is a great way for staff to contribute.

“The city’s aim is to raise awareness about the work of the RSPCA and the support needed for organisations like the RSPCA to care for and manage the welfare of animals,” he said.

“As with all of the city’s fundraising activities we encourage staff to get involved in any way they can.”

Cupcake Day will take place on August 19.
