The Gosnells Hawks continued their encouraging run of form over the weekend, claiming three wins from five matches as confidence continues to grow across the club ahead of one of the biggest days on the calendar.
While the Women’s and Thirds sides were unable to add to the win tally, every team showed signs of continued improvement as the Hawks prepare to host their annual NAIDOC Round celebrations, Past Players Day and the 1996 Premiership Reunion this Saturday.
Women
The Women’s side suffered an 8.6 (54) to 1.2 (8) defeat against Canning Vale, unable to repeat the dominant performance that saw them comfortably defeat the same opposition earlier in the season. Playing away from home proved a challenge, but the Hawks remain firmly in the finals race and will be eager to respond this weekend. Shaunece Jetta, Bindi Pickett and Talia Coyne led the way in a determined effort.
Colts
The Colts continued their outstanding season with a hard-fought 14.10 (94) to 6.3 (39) victory over Bassendean. Battling swirling winds and difficult conditions, Gosnells showed maturity beyond their years, sticking to the game plan and grinding out a convincing 55-point win. Matthew Goodhew was outstanding, while Taiawhio Morrison and Robert Davis Jr each kicked three goals. Cayne Rayment and Ben Paddon added two apiece.
Reserves
The Reserves delivered another thriller, edging Bassendean 7.5 (47) to 7.4 (46) in a contest that went right down to the final siren. Remarkably, it was the Hawks’ fourth game this season decided by less than a goal. After leading for much of the afternoon, the side withstood a late Bassendean surge before finding a way to secure an important four points. Matthew Hopewell, Kaiden Mapstone and Antonio Potter were among the Hawks’ best.

League
The League side made it back-to-back victories with an impressive 12.5 (77) to 6.10 (46) win. Forced to finish the match without any players left on the interchange bench, the Hawks displayed tremendous resilience, working tirelessly for one another to overcome adversity. Jaxon Jones Egan, Angus Osgood and Jack Burton starred, while Jesse Vanderplank finished with three goals. Corey Bertram and Adam White each added two majors in another complete team performance.
Thirds
Despite the scoreboard, the Thirds continued to display tremendous commitment against a strong Baldivis outfit. The Hawks battled hard throughout but went down 22.10 (142) to 3.4 (22). Brodie Lintern, who kicked two goals, along with Pheonix Turner and Lucas Tonihi, were recognised among the side’s best as the group continues to show plenty of character and determination.
With momentum building throughout the club, attention now turns to a blockbuster weekend at Gosnells Oval. Saturday’s home fixture will feature the club’s annual NAIDOC Round celebrations, Past Players Day and the 1996 Premiership Reunion, with all five Hawks teams taking to the field in what promises to be a memorable day for players, supporters and the wider community.
