Gosnells Football Club endured a challenging Round 9 campaign across its senior teams, but the standout performance of the weekend came from the club’s women’s side, which produced a stunning upset over undefeated ladder leaders Whitford.
The Hawks women delivered one of their best performances of the season, defeating Whitford 6.8 (44) to 4.3 (27). Controlling the contest from the opening bounce, Gosnells capitalised on its opportunities and maintained pressure throughout the day to hand Whitford its first loss of the year.
The victory keeps the Hawks firmly in the finals race heading into the second half of the season. Kyraley Drage, Talia Coyne and Mia Reidy were outstanding contributors in the important win.
The Colts battled hard against Piara Waters but were unable to overcome a shortage of numbers, falling 7.7 (49) to 9.11 (65). Despite the 16-point defeat, the young Hawks showed plenty of fight throughout the contest and will look to rebound against Manning this weekend. Matthew Goodhew, Kaiden Civic and Kye Horan were named among the team’s best performers.
The Reserves were left to rue missed opportunities after going down in another tight encounter with Piara Waters, 9.11 (65) to 11.9 (75). The Hawks created enough chances to challenge for the win but could not convert when it mattered most. Blake Pickett was outstanding with six goals and was joined in the best players by Levi Gallagher and Lennox Sanderson.

It was a difficult afternoon for the League side, which was comprehensively beaten by a strong Piara Waters outfit. The Hawks were restricted to 2.3 (15) while Piara Waters piled on 20.14 (134). Despite the disappointing result, the group remains focused on improving and returning to winning form. Kyle Dougan, Nicholas Glancy and Cruz Woodley were recognised for their efforts.
The Thirds also faced a tough challenge, going down 3.5 (23) to 20.19 (139). While results have been difficult throughout the season, the commitment and determination shown by the group each week continues to be a credit to the club. Cosmo Marshall, James Jacobs and Latriel Bilney were named the side’s best players.
While the overall results did not go Gosnells’ way, the club will take confidence from the women’s breakthrough victory and look to bounce back across the board when action returns this weekend. The women will enjoy a well-earned bye after their impressive win over the competition leaders.
