A Leeming Senior High School student will represent Western Australia on the national stage after being selected in the School Sport WA Under-15 Girls Cricket Team.
Brianna Miriyagalla, who lives in Harrisdale and is a Year 10 student at Leeming Senior High School, has been chosen to compete at the School Sport Australia Cricket Championships in Bunbury from February 21 to 27.
Brianna noted the selection marks an important milestone in her cricket journey.
“It means a lot to me as I have never had this opportunity before, and it has always been something I wanted to do,” she said.
The 15-year-old has been playing cricket for almost six years and plays as an off-spin bowler and top order batter. Being selected for the WA team already stands as her proudest moment in the sport so far.
Brianna credits her family, especially her father, for supporting her throughout her cricket journey.
She said she is looking forward to the overall experience of the championships and the chance to compete against players her age from across Australia.

Her dad, Andrew Miriyagalla, said the family felt proud when they learned of her selection.
“We were really happy and proud about Brianna. It is like an appreciation for hard work and dedication,” they said.
They described her cricket journey as challenging at times but rewarding, adding that seeing her represent Western Australia and her local community made the achievement even more special.
Brianna will join teammates from across the state as Western Australia competes against other states at the national school championships in Bunbury.
