The athletic teens at the Serpentine Jarrahdale Netball Club (SJNC) competed at the South West and Peel Regional Championships last month.
Held in Busselton on the weekend of June 21 and 22, the SJNC teams played against bigger associations including Bunbury, Mandurah and Busselton.
Coach of SJ Thunder Aleesha Denholm said the netball teams played well and worked well together in an unfamiliar environment.
“Both teams represented SJNA at a high level,” she said.
“We are extremely proud of the girl’s effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.”
The under 14’s played in division two, winning all six of the standard games across the two weekend days.
Unfortunately for our local netball girls, they lost the grand final but placed second overall for their division in the 14’s age group.
The under 16’s were in division and played against tough oppositions in the two-day long competition, winning three games and losing three games.
Although placing fourth on the ladder for division one, Ms Denholm said the 16’s played incredibly well throughout the whole competition.
“They had very strong opponents but continued to show their incredible talent and athleticism,” she said.
Under 16’s

The under 16’s played their first round against Margaret River, securing their first win of the competition with 27 points to 17.
They then played against Leschenault and won again 26 to 19.
For round four against Bunbury Netball Association, the girls put up a tough fight but ultimately lost 10 to 36.
Starting fresh and starting strong on Sunday, SJ Thunder took on Mandurah’s division two where they won 37 to 19.
Unfortunately, against Mandurah division one in the following round, the under 16’s lost in a close game of 29 to 22.
Against Busselton in the final round with no court familiarity, SJ lost 18 to 26 after working hard for the final round of the competition.
Under 14’s
On the first day of the competition, SJ Thunder secured an early win as the under 14’s team took on Busselton, working hard to win on the unfamiliar courts 18 to 15.
After having a break, the girls returned for round three against Manjimup in a huge win which finished with SJ on 24 and Manjimup on four.
The girl’s finished off Saturday strong, becoming undefeated after their win against Collie with the final score being 11 to eight.
SJ continued to bring the heat on Sunday, proving they were the ones to beat in the competition after the under 14’s won 38 to six against Eaton in the early 8am game.
In a close game which finished on 21 to 19, SJ Thunder fought hard against Margaret River to continue their five-game winning streak.
For round seven, SJ took on Leschenault and in a thumping win which proved their

strength, SJ finished on 26 while Leschenault closed the game with only eight points.
For the grand final, it was SJ Thunder against Margaret River.
The under 14’s fought hard to protect their winning streak and continue their status as undefeated but ultimately lost the battle in a nine to 28 loss.
The teams have played in the South West competition in previous years, with the under 16’s also playing in the Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships in Perth over the WA day long weekend where they won in their division against teams from around the state and Singapore.Netball
