CCTV footage has captured the three offenders in the act of illegally dumping rubbish along Brook Road in Kenwick.

Three more people have been fined after the City of Gosnells’ covert cameras caught them illegally dumping rubbish at a site in Kenwick.

Johanna Louise of Forrestfield, Jashanpreet Singh of Ellenbrook and Jagroop Bhatti of Cannington appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 12.

Each pleaded guilty to littering offences after being filmed dumping waste along Brook Road.

They were fined between $600 and $1000, and each ordered to pay an extra $74 to cover the City’s legal costs.

Mayor Teressa Lynes said it doesn’t matter where offenders come from.

“Just because you don’t live within the City of Gosnells, it doesn’t mean you won’t get caught,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.

“We want to continue driving home the message that illegal dumping will not be tolerated in our city, and anyone who tries their luck will likely be caught and face the consequences.”

So far, six people have been prosecuted for dumping waste on City-managed land. Another 16 cases are under investigation.

The penalty for individuals dumping rubbish is up to $5,000 and for businesses or corporate entities it is up to $10,000.

Mayor Lynes said there are simple and legal ways for residents to dispose of unwanted items.

“There are ways for residents in the City of Gosnells to dispose of their household waste legally, with the city providing free verge collections each year in addition to a community waste drop off day,” Mayor Lynes said.

“There are also tip sites located close by in the neighbouring Cities of Armadale and Canning, so there is no excuse for illegal dumping.”

The city encourages anyone who sees rubbish being dumped to report it. People should note vehicle registration, type, and a description of the person involved. Photos or dashcam footage can also help if it is safe to collect them.

Reports can be made by calling the city on 9397 3000.
