Serpentine Jarrahdale SES volunteers were recognised at the Emergency Services Awards.

Emergency services volunteers were recognised for their hardworking efforts at last Friday’s Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale awards ceremony on June 13.

Held at Mardella Meadows, the annual awards night honoured volunteer bush fire brigade (BFB) members, State Emergency Services (SES) volunteers, Emergency Support Brigade (EBS) members, and Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) officers, along with their families.

Shire President Rob Coales said the occasion provided a meaningful opportunity to recognise the courage and sacrifice of the volunteers who dedicated their time to protect the community.

“We live in an area where extreme events — like bushfires and severe storms — are always a possibility, which is why our volunteers are an integral part of the Shire,” he said.

“Over the past 12 months, our volunteer brigades and SES members responded to more than 310 incidents in and outside the Shire.

“Their service not only protects lives and properties but also strengthens our community’s awareness and resilience. We’re so grateful for the time, effort and care they give so selflessly.”

President Coales said it was equally an opportunity to thank the support network of the Shire’s volunteers.

“I also want to extend my gratitude to their families and friends whose support, patience, and encouragement helps our volunteers do what they do,” he said.

“The annual Awards Night is our opportunity to say thank you and to celebrate the volunteers.

“This night is for you.”

An honorary recipient of the evening was Emergency Support Brigade volunteer Robert Fawcett who received recognition for his 55 years of service by receiving both a shire Long Service Clasp and a National Medal.

Volunteers from Mundijong, Jarrahdale, Byford, Oakford, Keysbrook, Serpentine and Serpentine Jarrahdale BFBs were honoured for their years of service with both shire and national recognitions, while members from Serpentine Jarrahdale SES were also awarded with National Medals and Long Service Clasps.

Lexi Gray from Byford Cadets received the Cadet Award, while Chief’s Awards were given to Chris Burgess from Keysbrook BFB and Jason White from Serpentine Jarrahdale Bush Fire Service.

Anne Cooper from Mundijong BFB, Neil Munkley from Byford BFB, Trevor Starcevich from Serpentine BFB, Adam Mathlin from Oakford BFB, Ian Junk from Keysbrook BFB, Sonya Morris from Jarrahdale BFB, Julia Ward from ESB, and Evan Wade from Serpentine Jarrahdale SES all left the ceremony with Captain’s Awards.
