On Wednesday morning, Liberal Party Leader, Peter Dutton, joined local candidates Mic Fels (Swan) and Howard Ong (Tangney) to announce a major funding commitment that’s set to transform how residents move across the river.
If elected, a Liberal government will invest $112.5 million to duplicate the Shelley Bridge; a move expected to ease the ongoing traffic bottleneck along Leach Highway and stop the surge of cars spilling into quiet neighbouring streets.

The pledge, made ahead of the upcoming federal election, was welcomed by City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall, who described it as a “game changer” for residents on both sides of the bridge.
“This is a funding commitment our council has been strongly advocating for,” Mayor Hall said.
