Seville Grove artist Gracey has thrown his first pebble in the pond and the ripples are already having their impact.

In just three months Gracey took his Art vs Depression concept and turned it into a fully-fledged art show.

The Art vs Depression exhibition, which officially opened at Armadale Library on Monday, is a selection of works from Gracey and several other local artists aimed at highlighting depression as a pressing issue.

Initially he went out into the community with a box of crayons and a piece of paper and while speaking to people about his own run-in with depression he asked them to record a mark or draw a picture.

He and the other artists then used the markings as inspiration for their pieces.
Gracey said the exhibition was just the first pebble in the pond but he wanted to keep making waves by touring the pieces.

“It’s going to continue going out as living art,” he said.

“What I mean is it doesn’t stop here, the next phase is I need to get this in front of as many eyes as possible and drive the message that way.”

Fellow Art vs Depression artist Nerolie Blurton said she loved the concept.

The exhibit runs to May 30 at the Armadale Library in Armadale Central shopping centre.
