Teams ready for ‘El Classico,’

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi are the giants of El Classico games.

Canning City and Gosnells City played for silver on Wednesday night in the highly anticipated Frank Longstaff Cup.

Dubbed by some as the ‘El Classico’ of the southeast metro region, Examiner Newspapers will have an exclusive sports report next week.

Used to describe a game between fierce rivals, now synonymously used when football legends Real Madrid and Barcelona FC play, the term El Classico traces its origins to 1902.

El Classico is known as possibly the most watched and talked about fixture in the history of the sport.

The two teams meet twice during a season, with an additional two times in the Copa del Rey, Champions League, and the Supercopa de Espana.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have met each other in 228 competitive matches so far with Real Madrid having a slight advantage with 92 wins over their rivals Barcelona with 89 wins and the remaining 48 encounters ended in a draw.
