During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, police are playing a vital role in our local area.

Despite police officers having to implement some serious health measures across districts, policing actions and activities remain unchanged.

Canning Vale Senior Sergeant Quentin Flatman said there is a higher police presence around shopping centres, bottle shops and Centrelink premises to provide comfort and support the community during the health crisis.

“There has been a reduction in crime, despite this, stealing and instances of family and domestic violence have increased,” he said.

“We should all accept that people are under stress, as such we should make sure we take the time to understand others, be more patient for those around us, follow the instructions of the state government, police, health workers and shop owners.”

The Canning Vale police station has limited its opening times from 8am to 4pm. The front door will be locked until people are assessed.

Snr Sgt Flatman said each inquiry will be assessed with appropriate policing services provided and appropriate individuals will be permitted access to the office.

“Police have implemented a twice daily disinfectant cleaning of the office and vehicles and gloves will be worn by officers during their interactions with the community, and depending on the task, clear glasses and masks may also be used,” he said.

“We will be following the advice of the government but this will not deter officers from taking appropriate measures to enforce the law, such as effecting arrests or providing assistance, such as primary medical aid.”
