Residents at an over 45s village in Serpentine gathered last month to shave off their luscious locks and frazzled beards all in the name of charity.

The Serpentine Leisure Village seniors social club held a Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave event on St Patrick’s Day, which saw about 60 residents come dressed up in all things green.

Committee member Greg Traupmann said the residents were thrilled to be involved in the charity event.

“Several villagers and the club set up collections online as well as on the night,” he said. “We raised $1487 and the club raised $569.58 online.

“Residents each raised individual amounts with the grand total equalling $3418.87.”

He said management at the village also donated $250 towards the cause and local businesses from Serpentine, Byford, Baldivis, Mundijong and Armadale also donated towards the cause.
