CY O’Connor’s new 2024 steak sandwich is packed with Melaleuka Farm beef steak, chimichurri aioli, provolone cheese, cos lettuce, tomato and beef bacon jam on a sun-dried tomato panini.

Two local legends have been announced as finalists in the 2024 WA’s Best Steak Sandwich competition.

Congratulations go to Piara Waters’ CY O’Connor Village Pub and Canning Vale’s The Last Local which took out two of the four metro finalist spots.

Seventy venues entered the competition, which is now in its 17th year.

Finalists were determined via public votes and mystery judge visits throughout the month of May.

The judges rated the tenderness of the meat (beef or lamb), composition and presentation, originality and creativity, chips, sauces, flavour and value for money.

Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said WA’s Best Steak Sandwich competition was a WA institution that attracts huge support across the state every year.

“The culinary effort of participating chefs has been outstanding, the competition is fierce and the bragging rights enormous, so we are all set for an exciting cook-off in a few weeks’ time,” Mr Woods said.

The other two metro finalists in WA’s Best Steak Sandwich competition are Carringtons Bar & Grill (Hamilton Hill) and Hillarys Beach Club (Hillarys).

The Last Local has already had a taste of success, winning the crown in 2022 with its Chicago-inspired French dip steak sandwich. Last year the Iluka took out the honour.

This year’s winners will be decided in a live cook-off at the 2024 AHA Hospitality Expo at Crown Perth on Tuesday 25 June (for the Country WA category) and Wednesday 26 June (for the Perth metro category).
