‘It made his day’

Birthday boy Isaac Deliu waits patiently for visitors outside his home in Old Byford.

It wasn’t quite the fifth birthday celebration the Deliu family had planned for their son, but the Byford community did their best to help put a smile on Isaac’s face.

Late last week, Louise Deliu took to the Byford community page to encourage motorists passing through Old Byford to give little Isaac a ‘beep’ for his birthday after the cancellation of his birthday party at Jungle Gym.

Those who had been invited to the party supported him by driving by to wish him a happy birthday, but throughout the day, the beeps kept coming – with total strangers going out of their way to wish him a happy birthday.

“He absolutely loved it,” Mrs Deliu said.

“He said it had been ‘definitely absolutely the best birthday and whole day ever’.

“Thankfully, his teacher did a great job explaining the coronavirus situation before the school holidays.

“I reiterated that we would have to cancel his party because we didn’t want anyone to catch germs and he was very understanding – we were really impressed.”

The post has since received more than 500 likes and more than 100 birthday wishes from members of the Byford community.

Mrs Deliu said she had been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of her community, with one special pair even dropping off a gift for little Isaac.

“I just want to say thank you to the wonderful community that we live in and everyone who drove by and made him smile,” she said.

“It made his day and I cannot thank you enough.”
