Woody has become a true club icon.

Gosnells Hawks have endured a challenging Round 6 across several grades, with the Colts providing the highlight of the weekend in a special Rodney Pollock Round victory.

The Women’s side went down in heartbreaking fashion to Mt Lawley, losing 6.2 (38) to 5.4 (34) after leading for much of the contest.

Gosnells controlled large periods of the game before Mt Lawley surged late in the final quarter to steal the win. Martika Yappo, Shakira Pickett and Talia Coyne were named among the Hawks’ best performers.

The standout result of the day came from the Colts, who honoured the memory of Rodney Pollock with a dominant 10.5 (65) to 2.5 (17) victory over Kingsley.

The win sees Gosnells move a game clear on top of the ladder. Marquell Spratt starred up forward with four goals, while Matthew Goodhew was awarded the Rodney Pollock Medal for best afield. CJ Bertram and Deklin Norgate also impressed in the important victory.

It was a difficult afternoon for the Reserves, who were overrun early by a strong Kingsley outfit, eventually falling 18.7 (115) to 1.4 (10). Despite the scoreboard, the Hawks continued to compete strongly throughout the match. Fynn Richardson, Noah Millar and Cody Staines battled hard all day.

The League side also suffered defeat against Kingsley, going down 16.9 (105) to 6.7 (43). While the Hawks showed patches of determination, Kingsley proved too strong across four quarters. Angus Osgood, Ezekiel Borsic and Brodie Lintern were among Gosnells’ best contributors.

In the Thirds, the club celebrated a significant milestone as Kyle Wood (Woody) played his 300th game. Gosnells fell to Curtin Uni Wesley 15.10 (100) to 5.4 (34), but teammates continued to fight hard throughout the contest in honour of the milestone occasion. Riley Wilson, Rilee Hodges and Seth Rayment were named the side’s best players.

Looking ahead to Round 7, the Women will host Kenwick at 9.30am, while the Colts travel to Brown Park to face Swan View at 11.15am. The Reserves and League sides take on Belmont at Forster Park, with games scheduled for 11.20am and 1.15pm respectively. The Thirds will face Secret Harbour at Rhonda Scarrott Oval at 11.15am.

Behind the fixtures, we are thrilled to have celebrated the huge milestone of Woody’s 300th game.

He’s an absolute character and one of the great blokes around the club. It’s a massive achievement and a true testament to his commitment over the years, although he’s probably only handballed it about three times in all those games.

Woody has been the definition of a utility player, capable of playing anywhere on the ground in key positions.

Whether it’s taking big, contested marks, kicking important goals, or simply crashing packs and bringing energy, he’s always been reliable when the team needs him.

His list of achievements is long, but include the 2009 Colts Premiership Captain, Thirds Captain 2015 and 2016, Best Utility 2017 and 2019 and Life Member status in 2020.

Three hundred games is an unbelievable milestone and something very few achieve. Thanks for everything you’ve given to the club over the years, Woody.
