With National Tree Day coming up in July, Willetton Senior High School hosted The Tree Planting project as an initiative of the school’s Interact Club.

Around 80 to 100 people attended from four different schools and the Rotaract Club of Rossmoyne and Rotary Club of Willetton were amongst the participants.

Club advisor Mihan De Silva spoke about the importance of encouraging young students to be part of the tree planting project and events in support of the environment.

“Events like this reinforce the importance of giving back to others and it helps shape the next generation of students into leaders who are genuinely passionate about the betterment of our larger society.” he said.

According to Mr Mihan organising events like this are essential for students to develop the necessary skills and qualities to become future pioneers of change.

Club president Jae Brieffies said raising young people to be active contributors to their local and international community is an important part of Interact’s objectives.

“The club being student-led with the guidance of our facilitators, prides itself in providing students with the opportunity and freedom to grow as leaders and team members.” he said.

Some students have already taken on the initiative to start a charity event to help Africa raise funds through Water for Africa and Mercy Ships.
