City of Canning councillors will form a selection panel to recruit a new chief executive when current chief executive Lyn Russell retires in June next year.

Ms Russell announced she will retire from the position, which she started in June 2013, at the agenda briefing this month.

She replaced acting chief executive Andrew Sharpe and oversaw huge governance changes in the city to prepare it for the new council.

Councillors are expected to appoint a panel to manage the recruitment process for a new chief executive tonight.

Ms Russell declined to comment.
