Year 6 students Dominic and Rose were proud to take part in the Shark Tank inspired showcase.

Eco-conscious moisturisers, freeze-dried candy and community-first plant business ideas were tackled by students from Australian Christian College (ACC) Darling Downs at a Shark Tank-inspired showcase.

The entrepreneurial initiative saw Year 6 students step into the shoes of real-world business founders, designing and pitching their own ideas, products or services in front of a panel of sharks – their peers and teachers.

The showcase was part of a cross-curricular program aligned with English, humanities and social sciences and digital technologies.

Students were challenged to develop a complete business plan; from market research and sustainability considerations to persuasive presentations and digital infographics.

They pitched their ideas in a formal oral presentation, which helped to build their public speaking and communication skills.

Year 6 student Koshika pitched a $12 avocado oil moisturiser for people with dry skin types, Rose opened her Little Ones seedlings business which she said offered the best and most affordable options for everyone, while Dominic catered to sweet-tooths and pitched freeze-dried candy.

Year 6 teacher Kate Quintana was impressed by the students’ thoughtful, innovative and well-presented ideas as they encountered real-life business challenges such as pricing biodegradable materials or budgeting production costs.

“The Shark Tank project empowered Year 6 students to think like real entrepreneurs – combining creativity, sustainability, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making with the confidence to present their ideas to others,” Ms Quintana said.

“By researching, designing, and pitching their own product or service, students built valuable skills in communication, digital literacy, and business planning that will serve them well beyond the classroom.”
