The unveiling of brand-new wheels equipped with a mobile dinner service trailer filled the Homelessness We Care (HWC) crew with excitement, says founder Stuart McLellan.
“As the back doors opened for the first time, volunteers gathered in anticipation,” he said.
“The new trailer, custom-built by John Pappas Trailers over two and a half months, represents a major step forward for the organisation’s ability to deliver meals to those experiencing homelessness and hardship.”
Mr McLellan said efficiency was at the top of the priority list when the crew considered the type of trailer they wanted.
“The trailer enables full meal preparation and clean-up on site,” he said.
One volunteer expressed to Mr McLellan how thrilled they were about the new trailer.
“Everything has its place,” the volunteer said.
“It makes setting up and serving meals much easier.
“We can now reach more people and provide better service.”
Mr McLellan said HWC volunteer Kevin worked tirelessly to prepare the trailer for commissioning and ensured every detail was ready for use at the trailer’s unveiling on October 10.

At the dinner service, Mr McLellan said both volunteers and clients praised the new addition to the team.
“Guests, many of whom are struggling or without a home, shared in the excitement,” he said.”
Mr McLellan thanked Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones for his support in securing funding for the new trailer.

Mr Jones said it was gratifying to be able to contribute tangible support to an organisation helping those doing it tough.
“It’s always gratifying to witness the dedication of Stuart and Coral McLellan and the other HWC volunteers who show up each Friday evening to help,” he said.
“Services like HWC, who provide hot meals and hampers with a smile, are proof that people in this community care.
“It was important to me to get behind that.”
HWC’s second annual Christmas party was also announced at the dinner service.
“Christmas can be a very lonely time for people doing it tough,” Mr McLellan said.

“Our Christmas dinner gives everyone a place at the table – a chance to belong, to make new friends and to start the festive season with warmth and hope.”
Mr McLellan said everyone was welcome to the dinner.
“Those experiencing homelessness, families in hardship and anyone seeking friendship and connection this Christmas,” he said.
The Christmas dinner will take place on Thursday, December 19 from 4pm to 8pm at Briggs Park, Byford.
