The inaugural Local Farmers Market South saw a huge turnout

Thornlie locals turned out in big numbers over the weekend to welcome the suburb’s new farmers market, giving it a warm and enthusiastic launch.

Held at Thornlie Avenue Reserve, the inaugural Local Farmers Market South was packed with shoppers keen to explore fresh produce and handmade goods from local vendors. By mid-morning, some stalls had already sold out.

Mayor Terresa Lynes and Deputy Mayor Serena Williamson dropped by the event and chatted with market organiser Jodie, who said the launch had been “well supported.”

In a post on social media, the Local Farmers Market team thanked the community for the overwhelming response: “You came in droves, and the love for our local vendors was phenomenal… we didn’t expect such a crowd so soon; lesson learned!”

Locals in the comment section echoed the excitement, with one saying it was “so great having a local fresh market and not having to travel 30 minutes for farm fresh,” while another hoped the markets were “here to stay.”

If you missed the opening, there’s no need to worry because the markets will return every Saturday morning with weekly vendor lineups announced on Wednesdays.
