Young people across Canning have another chance to stay active and connected this term, with the popular StreetSport program returning bigger and better than ever.
Following a successful run before Christmas, StreetSport is back for Term 2, offering soccer and basketball sessions for young people aged 10 to 16. The program is supported by the Criminal Property Confiscation Grants program, funded by the Department of Justice.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall praised the initiative’s impact on the local community.
“The StreetSport program has already proven to be a fantastic initiative, providing young people with a positive outlet to develop skills, build friendships, and stay active,” he said. “Seeing the enthusiasm and participation has been incredible, and we’re excited to bring even more opportunities in Term 2 with local sporting groups such as the Perth Redbacks and Football Futures.”
StreetSport aims to offer more than just fun—it provides a safe, inclusive environment where young people can build social and teamwork skills while engaging in structured sports activities.
Building on the momentum from last year, this term’s program will feature partnerships with the Perth Redbacks and Football Futures Foundation, alongside ongoing support from WA Police, the Salvation Army, and Cannington headspace.
The Perth Redbacks, a key supporter of the program, said inclusion and community involvement are at the heart of their club’s mission.
“The Redbacks see inclusion and participation as the core pillar of our club,” a club spokesperson said. “We are an organisation that doesn’t exist without community activation and support. Getting people involved and having fun in the sport of basketball is crucial to us, and everyone is always welcome, from grassroots through to our professional programs.”
