Volunteers in the SJ Shire have been celebrated for their selfless contributions to the community.

The SJ Community Resource Centre hosted a dinner at the Byford & Districts Country Club as a special thankyou in line with International Thank a Volunteer Day

“It’s an opportunity to give all volunteers in the area a night off and to let them know that we really appreciate all that they do,” SJ CRC program coordinator Rebecca Firmstone said.

Ms Firmstone said the CRC had made a special effort to invite people who didn’t often consider themselves as volunteers, like members of school P&Cs and sports coaches.

Over 140 local volunteers attended the dinner which was the fourth of its kind, including 10 youth volunteers.

The event was made possible through a Department of Communities grant, and with the support of Permacast, local member Hugh Jones, the Byford Progress Association, SJ Lions Club, Bendigo Bank, the SJ Farmers Market, and of course, the Byford & Districts Country Club.
