Members of local rock group Dining with Sinners celebrated after taking out this year’s Gozzy Rock music competition.

They and the five other finalists – Ari-Lou, Shakira Goltman, Stamina, TJ, and Viperchain – performed as part of special concert on May 22, at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre.

Delivering a “high-energy performance” with “great stage presence”, Dining with Sinners did enough to claim the competition’s $1500 first prize.

Solo performer TJ won the $750 second prize, while Viper Chain picked up the $500 third prize.

This year’s event was judged by Katherine John (KJ Entertainment), Jaime Mercanti (known as Slim Jim), and Darren Versaico (Mega Music).

“Congratulations to everyone who entered in this year’s competition, to our six finalists and especially to our three prize winners,” City of Gosnells mayor David Goode said.

Gozzy Rock, hosted by the city, is an annual ‘battle-of-the-bands’ style competition designed to promote the region’s best young musicians.

“As WA’s longest-running original music competition, Gozzy Rock has been helping unsigned bands and artists break into the music industry since 1986,” Mr Goode said.

“It’s always an exciting event that celebrates the talents and passions of young people in our community.”
