Nominations open for annual Burt Volunteer Awards

Picking last year’s winners was a hard task for Matt Keogh.

Following on from last week’s national volunteer week, Member for Burt Matt Keogh has launched his annual Burt Volunteer Awards campaign.

Nominations opened last week to put forward members of the Burt community who have shown dedication and commitment to helping others.

Mr Keogh said he believes community inclusion and support is what helps strengthen and build the community of Burt.

“Having the opportunity to bring people together to be recognised and thanked is one of the responsibilities as your local MP I hold most dear”, he said.

“This year, the Awards will be expanded with the change of electoral boundaries for Burt.

“That means for the first time, Byford, Darling Downs and Oakford locals and community groups will be eligible to be nominated in the awards.”

The Burt Volunteer Awards recognised unsung local heroes who have continued to go above and beyond for the community and its members.

People who volunteer in all sectors of the community are eligible to apply for the awards, including volunteers from Rotary or Lions Clubs, sporting groups, environmental volunteers, school volunteers, and those volunteering in hospitals or health care.

The five categories of awards this year are environment, sporting, community and other services, multicultural services and volunteers under 30-years-old.

Nominations close Friday July 11.
