Staff and students at Beenyup Primary are still getting used to their sparkling new surrounds after the school opened its doors less than a month ago to a large cohort of smiling faces.

The new school is home to 170 students from kindergarten to year six and has the potential to accommodate up to 540 students.

Principal Rebecca Instance said it is an honour to be the foundation principal of a new school.

“I am very appreciative of the efforts and generosity of our families in supporting the school,” she said.

“Our steering committee has also been amazing and I am thankful for all of their support and the contributions they have made whilst working in partnership with me to begin building the brighter futures our children deserve.”

Ms Instance said the students had settled in well and she was looking forward to a bright future.

The new school features $19 million worth of state-of-the-art facilities including three general teaching blocks, an art room, early childhood teaching block, administration block with adjoining dental therapy centre, library resource centre and a covered assembly area with a canteen and music room.

There are also hard courts, a cricket pitch and nets and a school oval.

Member for the East Metropolitan Region Matthew Swinbourn said the opening of Beenyup Primary takes the enrolment pressure off nearby Woodland Grove Primary.
