Families in Maddington are making the most of the newly upgraded Woodswallow Park, with fresh play equipment, barbecue facilities and shaded areas drawing in more children and parents each day.
The park, located in a growing residential area, now features a combination play unit, circle swing, spinner, log scramble, picnic seating and a shelter, thanks to recent works by the City of Gosnells.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said the improvements were designed to support the community as the area continues to grow.
“With increasing housing density in the area, this upgraded park offers important play opportunities for children and a welcoming place for residents to gather outdoors with neighbours, friends and family,” she said.
Local residents told the Examiner Newspapers the new space was already making a difference.
“I feel like it’s a good thing because since I have a little brother, it’s easy access for him,” one resident said. “He always likes us to go there and push him around on the circle swing.”
Another resident praised the upgrade as a boost for local families.
“It’s nice. Kids can play. It’s kind of a chilly neighbourhood, which is good,” they said. “Since they have a playground like this, they like to go outside. And going outside is important, like seeing the sun, vitamin D.”
Both residents said they had noticed more families using the space since the new facilities were installed.
The upgrade is one of several recent and ongoing projects in the suburb. In an online update, Mayor Lynes confirmed that work had started at Dunnell Park, with more improvements coming soon to Peace Park. Harmony Fields is also undergoing a “forest” planting project, and more than 20 new trees have been added along Maddington Road near Tonkin Highway.
The changes have sparked positive feedback from residents online, with many applauding the new park and calling for more improvements across the city. Suggestions included upgrades to Mahogany Park, Armstrong Park and the addition of equipment and shelters in other open spaces like Mannikin Way and Pioneer Park.
“I love the pink slide,” one person commented, while another praised the park’s drainage after heavy rain.
