The Armadale Line has been closed since 2023 to undergo upgrade works as part of the new Metronet lines.

Regular passengers impacted by the Armadale Line closure will continue to receive free public transport, which is set to be announced in the upcoming 2025-26 State budget.

The WA Government has announced $1.4 million will be allocated in the budget to extend free public transport to passengers already receiving the entitlement while their regular station is closed.

A further $21.4 million will also be invested over four years to permanently retain multiple replacement bus services implemented during the Armadale Line closure.

Bus replacement services will be retained for routes 529 between Armadale Station and Cockburn Central Station, route 51 between Cannington Station and Perth Busport and route 36 between Cannington Station and Airport Central Station.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the State Government is “committed” to ensuring people impacted by the Armadale Line closure have transport options.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while we deliver this transformative program of works on the Armadale Line,” she said.

“We committed to providing free public transport to regular passengers during this closure, and this investment will ensure that continues for everyone still impacted by the closure.

“We’re building incredible new stations, removing dangerous level crossings, turning the rail corridor into a parkland, and upgrading huge sections of track between Beckenham and Armadale.

“Works on the Byford Rail Extension have been progressing really well in recent weeks and months, and I look forward to announcing a reopening date for the entire line very soon.”

The State budget is expected to be handed down on June 19.
