Local drivers on notice

With Term 3 underway across the City of Canning, motorists are being reminded to take extra care around school zones and stick to the reduced 40km/h speed limits during key drop-off and pick-up times.

School zone speed limits are now back in effect from 7:30am to 9am and 2:30pm to 4pm on school days. The reminder comes as children return to classrooms and footpaths become busier with students, families, and school staff.

The City is encouraging drivers to stay alert, watch their speed, and be extra cautious near schools, especially during the first week of term when speed enforcement in school zones typically ramps up.

Community road safety group Driver Alerts WA also took to social media to reinforce the message, urging motorists to stay vigilant and patient as schools resume. “Be extra mindful when travelling through a school zone, watch your speed and please be extra attentive to your surroundings,” the group posted.

With many children walking, cycling or being dropped off near busy roads, the City of Canning is calling on all drivers to help keep students safe by slowing down and following the rules.
