Owners of The Batter Fish and Chip shop in Canning Vale have signed a petition requesting the City of Gosnells to set up 15-minute car bays.

Margaret and Mark White said the petition would be presented at the next council meeting on August 8.

Mr White said he would like the bays on Canna Drive to have a 15-minute time limit only as there is limited parking.

“Residents have started parking in the street for lengthy periods of time,” he said.

“We have three aged care facilities in the area and many of our customers are elderly.”

Mr White said many of the elderly clients had to park quite a distance away and walk and for some this was difficult.

He hopes the petition will see some positive change in the area.

Member for Southern River Terry Healy together with City of Gosnells councillor Bill Wiffen have taken up the cause.

Mr Healy said he was doorknocking in the area when he spoke to Mr and Mrs White.

He said he if he could help with anything and they told him about their parking issues.

Mr Wiffen said in addition to presenting the petition at the council meeting, he will also ask for some street signage in the area to reduce speeding.
