A bushfire in the Kelmscott-Martin area was brought under control on Monday night after burning nearly five hectares of land.

The fire was first reported at 5.04pm on Monday, January 12 near Turner Road and Taronga Drive in Kelmscott, according to a Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) spokesperson.

Fire crews from Armadale, Cardup, Cockburn, Canning Vale, Hope Valley and Maddington fire and rescue stations responded.

They were supported by bushfire brigades from Roleystone, Karragullen and Bedfordale.

Aerial support was deployed as crews battled the blaze, with aircraft assisting operations at about 7.10pm.

At that time, the fire was controlled but not contained and had burnt 4.7 hectares of land.

Conditions eased later in the evening, allowing DFES to downgrade the emergency alert at about 8pm.

DFES said the fire was contained and no longer posed a threat to lives or homes.

The bushfire advice remains in place for people in the area bounded by Mills Road East, Canning Mills Road and Connell Avenue in Kelmscott and Martin in the City of Armadale and City of Gosnells.

Some roads in the area may be closed, and motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible, reduce speed and follow directions from emergency services personnel.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
