An information forum will be held by MLA Hugh Jones this Friday, in order to educate and support locals in the increasingly complex field of digital protection.
According to Mr Jones’ office, scammers are using sophisticated methods to target vulnerable Western Australians to steal personal information and hard-earned savings – and those over 65 are the hardest hit.
“They are smart and take advantage of new technology, products and events to exploit any opportunity to steal from some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Mr Jones.
“Anyone can be a victim of a scam, and my Scam Prevention Forum gives residents the tools and information they need to protect themselves and their loved ones and stay ahead of the scammers.”
In 2025, scammers using ‘Romance Scams’ alone conned Western Australians out of more than $3.8 million and Australians aged 65 and over recorded the highest losses of any age group.
Hugh Jones’ Scam Prevention Forum is cutting through the noise and giving residents the tools to recognise, report and protect against the scammers.

The experts at Consumer Protection will deliver the latest advice and resources in the fight against scammers, and Minister for Commerce Dr Tony Buti MLA will be there to answer audience questions following morning tea.
Hugh Jones Scam Prevention Forum will be conducted from 9am – 11am on Friday, 6 March at Byford & Districts Country Club.
