The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has approved a new long-term lease for Byford Community Kindergarten, giving the much-loved service certainty to continue supporting local families.

The Shire Council has endorsed a 10-year tenure arrangement of five years with a five-year option for the kindergarten at the Byford Child Health Clinic on Park Road.

Byford Community Kindergarten has operated from the site since 1978 and offers a play-based learning program for four-year-olds.

The centre is run by the community, with day-to-day operations managed by a volunteer parent committee.

The Shire has previously supported the group through site upgrades, including replacing limestone walls, installing new fencing and gates, and adding downpipes to allow the group to begin installing a water playground. The new lease has now taken affect.

“The signing of a new long-term lease with the Byford Community Kindergarten recognises the long- standing value it brings to the community,” Shire President Rob Coales said.

“This is about supporting local families and making sure community facilities are used in a way that benefits everyone.

“Byford Community Kindergarten has been part of the local community for generations. I’m proud that the Shire is supporting community-run services that help build strong, connected neighbourhoods.

“This new lease gives families confidence that this important early learning service will continue to be there as Byford grows.”
